HOODIA GORDONII as an HERB and how it WORKS

Herbs plays varieties of purposes in human health today. It does not only localizes in certain places but is well known internationally. Furthermore, many people especially the group who seeks cheaper way of sustaining health prefer herbs that are known to be more effective and cheaper, even though there is none yet a certified study that would support the use of a certain herb.

One of the known considered herbs in the society nowadays is the Hoodia Gordonii, a succulent plant, a genus of 13 species, that grows originally in South Africa specifically in Namib Dessert in Africa. They are usually found and grow in plains and rocky areas. Before, it is used by the Bushmen hundred years ago as an appetite suppressant during their long journey of hunt. This plant usually 1 meter in height. And has large flowers that are commonly tan in color. Unlike other common flowers of certain plant, the flowers of Hoodia Gordonii are being pollinated by the flies because of its odor that smells like a rotten meat. This plant belongs to the subfamily Asclepiadoideae, and a flowering plant family of Apocynaceae. It is sometimes mistakenly named as cactus because of its similarity in features to a cactus.

Just like other herbs plants, Hoodia Gordonii plays medicinal uses in human. Mainly, it is used as an appetite suppressant. In most cases, it is used as diet pills by many people, especially to those who have problems in losing weight. This mainly works in human brain, its chemical content is being transmitted into the brain, and dictates the brain that the body has already ingested the needed carbohydrates and some elements to sustain body’s needs. As a result, the body wont demand and seek for food that took the role of gaining weight. In addition, Hoodia Gordonii also aides in reducing gastric acid  for about 40-60% of our gastric content that may lead to gastric ulcers in human because of its content called P57SD that is being extracted by from P57.

Today, Hoodia Gordonni is immensely popular in many countries especially in United States, and in some countries in Europe. And because of its role in the society today and the high demand, it became as one of the controlled Flora Species as (CITES) or the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora declared it as a risk to become Endangered Specie listed in its Appendix II.
