Do I Still Need To Take Hoodia After I’ve Achieved My Weight Loss Goals?

Once you have achieved your weight loss goals, do you still need to take hoodia diet pills for maintenance? Do you have to reduce the dose gradually and then stop all together? And can hoodia be taken occasionally? -Sue

Sue:

As for taking hoodia for maintenance after you’ve achieved your weight loss goals, that depends on the “state of your diet” and your ability to manage your appetite. Let me explain. Hoodia is just an appetite suppressant. You still need to do the heavy lifting (i.e. watch your diet and exercise when you can). So let’s say you lose 15 pounds and at that point you have a healthy diet and your appetite and hunger are under control (which is likely to happen), you wouldn’t need to take hoodia anymore. This is usually the case.

However, let’s say after you lose the weight you stop taking hoodia and you find yourself hungry all the time and you just cannot control your appetite without it. Then you might want to consider taking hoodia to keep your hunger under control. This usually doesn’t happen, however, because once people get their diet on track and they lose the weight, they don’t have problems with their appetite. If they do, they have learned how to manage it.

Hoodia should only be looked at as a short term solution to get you “over the hump” and to get your diet and weight loss program under control. I think once you get your diet on track and you achieve your weight loss goals, you won’t need hoodia. I don’t encourage people to rely on hoodia to maintain their weight loss. Use it as a temporary tool to help you stay on track with your diet and eating habits.

As for taking hoodia occassionally, you can do that but I’m not sure how effective it would be. Most people take hoodia consistently over a period of time. Rather than taking it occassionally, they will just lower the dose instead.

Regarding whether or not you should gradually lower the dose, Dr. Varallo says that his patients will take the larger doses initially - typically four Desert Burn capsules per day. Once they start losing weight and gaining better control of their appetite, they’ll lower the dose to 2-3 capsules per day. Some will stay on a low dose for a long time while others will just stop taking it all together. It varies from person to person and how well they are able to control their appetite without the aid of hoodia. Your goal should be to learn how to manage your appetite and eating habits without hoodia.

I like to draw the analogy to nicotine patches. It’s not realistic to think you can rely on nicotine patches the rest of your life to stop smoking. Eventually you’ll need to learn how to manage your nicotine cravings and it will ultimately be up to you to stop smoking! The same thing holds true with hoodia. It’s not realistic to think you can take hoodia the rest of your life to control your appetite. Sooner or later you have to learn to manage it yourself and ultimately it’s up to you to stop overeating or eating the wrong foods. Like nicotine patches, hoodia can be a terrific temporary solution to help you out but eventually it will be up to you to control you appetite over the long term.

I hope this helps.
