Do You Recommend A Product Called Hoodia Gordonii Plus?
I’m thinking about trying a product called Hoodia Gordonii Plus. Have you heard anything about it and would you recommend it? Their capsules contain 400mg of hoodia gordonii and the bottle recommends two capsules per day. Can I safely take up to four per day? -Heather

I’ll address your hoodia dosage concerns in a minute, but first let me comment on Hoodia Gordonii Plus. While Hoodia Gordonii Plus is a very popular brand, I am not a fan of this product at all and would advise you to consider other brands. There are several reasons I don’t recommend Hoodia Gordonii Plus but the most important is that they use a 10:1 hoodia extract. Hoodia extracts in general are very ineffective and some experts say they aren’t even real. They say it’s impossible to make a hoodia extract. For more information on this, read my article on hoodia extracts.
The other thing I don’t like about Hoodia Gordonii Plus is that it’s not a 100% hoodia gordonii diet pill. If you look closely at the ingredients, it includes many ingredients other than just hoodia gordonii. It contains magnesium, garcina extract, green tea extract, and a proprietary blend of ingredients. These other ingredients aren’t necessarily bad, but they dilute the product by limiting the amount of hoodia in the capsules. Hoodia Gordonii Plus has only 400mg of hoodia gordonii in each two capsule serving (200mg per capsule). That is a very small amount of hoodia and will do very little to suppress appetite.
Compare the amount of hoodia in Hoodia Gordonii Plus to the brands I recommend on my best rated hoodia page and you’ll notice a stark difference as each brand has at least 400mg of 100% authentic hoodia gordonii in each capsule! That’s double the amount of hoodia found in Hoodia Gordonii Plus and the hoodia gordonii found in those brands is the higher quality powder – not the inferior hoodia extract.
At the time of this writing, Hoodia Gordonii Plus sells a three month supply for $104.95. For just $14 more, you can get a six month supply of 400mg capsules that contain 100% authentic hoodia gordonii powder from a company called Natural Health Hoodia. And if this is your first time trying hoodia, you can get a 15-day free hoodia trial from them as well. The point I’m trying to get across is that you can find higher quality hoodia diet pills that will be much more effective than Hoodia Gordonii Plus – for roughly the same price.
As for your question pertaining to safe hoodia dosages, as long as you are healthy, not pregnant or nursing, and aren’t taking any medications, 1,600mg per day (four 400mg capsules) is fine. Dr. Varallo’s patients are taking between 2,250-4,500mg per day as that seems to be the optimal dosage for them. 1,600mg per day may not be enough but you can certainly start there and see how you respond to it. You may need to increase the dosage, however, if you find your appetite isn’t being suppressed.
I wouldn’t recommend you take Hoodia Gordonii Plus at these high doses because of all the other extra ingredients in the product and the low amount of hoodia in the capsules. With only 200mg of hoodia per capsule, you’d need to take 12-23 capsules of Hoodia Gordonii Plus to reach those higher dosage levels. I would not recommend you take that many pills! This is another reason why you should stick with those brands that contain at least 400mg of hoodia per capsule without any other ingredients. They’re the safest, most effective, and the least expensive over the long run.
