Is Fat Assassin with Hoodia An Authentic Product?

EDITOR’S UPDATE Oct. 2008:I received an email from someone who ordered Fat Assassin a while ago but couldn’t get the autoshipments cancelled even to this day. She was wondering if I had a telephone number to contact them. I didn’t realize it, but their website (MyFatAssassin.com) is no longer around! Unfortunately, the only telephone number they had was on their homepage. If you purchased this product and are having a hard time finding a way to contact them to cancel your autoshipments, I recommend you talk to your credit card company as they may be able to help. Another alternative would be to contact your state attorney general office.

EDITOR’S UPDATE: This Q&A about Fat Assassin with Hoodia was written in August 2007. I have received numerous emails from people who have purchased this supplement. I have also had time to further investigate Fat Assassin. The updated information for this diet supplement can be found throughout this Q&A by reading the “editor’s update” comments.

I’m thinking about trying Fat Assassin with Hoodia. Do you have any information on the ingredients in this product or if the ingredients are authentic? Thank you. -Voula

Voula:
It only took me about one minute to determine that Fat Assassin with Hoodia is a product I wouldn’t recommend. Please don’t waste your money on this. There are two major concerns I have about this diet supplement

The first is if you visit the Fat Assassin website, they don’t provide any information at all about the product itself.

EDITOR’S UPDATE: The website used to be MyFatAssassin.com. However, they shut down their website sometime in 2008 so their is no site to visit anymore!

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t put any diet pill in my mouth without knowing what exactly is in it. They claim it contains hoodia, but how much hoodia? And is it hoodia extract (which is worthless) or is it hoodia powder? And what other ingredients does it contain?

EDITOR’S UPDATE: According to a customer who tried the Fat Assassin with Hoodia free trial, the following ingredients are listed on the bottle:

Hoodia Gordonii: 100mg
Cha de bugre = 100mg (this is a stimulant that contains caffeine)
Guarana = 50 mg (this is a stimulant that contains caffeine)

These are the ingredients in each Fat Assassin capsule. There are 30 diet pills in each bottle. I called Fat Assassin directly and grilled them on the ingredients. The first customer service rep I spoke with told me the product contained hoodia and Ginseng! He didn’t even know what ingredients were in the supplement. The other agent I spoke with (because I called a second time) confirmed the ingredients shown but she couldn’t tell me how much there was of each.

While both of the agents claimed the hoodia was authentic, neither one could provide proof in the way of independent lab test results. They both just kept telling me about Fat Assassin’s money back guarantee. If I wasn’t satisfied with it, I could “easily” return it.

Whether it is authentic hoodia or not, is a moot point because there is only 100mg of it in each capsule and they only recommend one capsule per day! 100mg of hoodia gordonii will do nothing to suppress your appetite. Most people need at least 2,250mg per day – and some need as much as 4,500mg per day for it to work. Fat Assassin is a classic example of a company taking advantage of the popularity of hoodia. As long as it contains even a small amount of hoodia, they can advertise their product as, “Fat Assassin WITH Hoodia!”

As for the other ingredients, Chad de bugre and Guarana, I’m not familiar with them. However, from the little research I did on them, they are known to be appetite suppressants and are used in many diet supplements. This may be true, but my question is, is there enough of these ingredients to effectively suppress appetite? And even if there is, there are many dieters who don’t want a product that contains stimulants like caffeine. If you are one of them, you’ll want to stay away from this supplement!

I tried to find additional information on Fat Assassin with Hoodia from other websites and not one had any specific ingredient information on this product. For this reason alone I would not recommend it. I can almost assure you that given the “secrecy” of their ingredients, they most likely don’t use authentic hoodia and if they do, they probably use so little of it that it won’t make any difference in terms of suppressing appetite.

The other concern I have about Fat Assassin with Hoodia is they outright lie. If you listen to the audio message on their website it says, “…it got rave reviews on 60 minutes.” The message would have you believe that Fat Assassin was actually endorsed by 60 Minutes. They fail to tell you that it was hoodia (as in the hoodia plant itself) that was actually featured on the 60 minutes hoodia report and not Fat Assassin! I would not do business with a company that distorts the truth like this to make a buck.

The other thing that makes me nervous about Fat Assassin with Hoodia is that they require you to call to get information on the product or to place an order. That is very odd. When is the last time you visited a legitimate business website that didn’t have at least a “contact us” or an “about us” page? The fact that they are forcing you to call is a sure invite to being sold a bill of goods. I can guarantee you that if you call, they’ll push their free offer on you which will actually be an autoship program where you’ll receive their product every month and get charged accordingly!

EDITOR’S NOTE: I called the Fat Assassin telephone number two different times so that I would get two different customer service reps. I wanted to see if what they told me was consistent from one rep to another. Surprisingly, it wasn’t.

The first rep I talked to gave me all the different offers they have. I could order the free hoodia sample (which is one bottle of Fat Assassin with Hoodia) and pay only shipping and handling, or I could take advantage of their other offers. The other offers included buying a two month’s supply and getting one month free, buying a three month’s supply and getting three month’s free, or buying a six month’s supply and getting six month’s free. He also mentioned that through the end of 2007 they would throw in a 3-day/2-night stay at a variety of vacation destinations throughout the United States – a value of $350.

The second rep I talked to didn’t even mention the free hoodia offer. I actually had to bring it up, and when I did she really discouraged it. She told me that I wouldn’t lose as much with only one bottle of Fat Assassin. Now you tell me, does it sound like she’s on commission or what? At any rate, I asked her what the shipping and handling charge was for the free hoodia offer. She told me $9.95. The first rep I talked to told me it was $14.95. She also didn’t mention anything about the free vacation and I neglected to bring it up.

Both reps told me the same story, however, when it came to the free hoodia trial. They told me that I could order one free bottle of Fat Assassin with Hoodia and pay only shipping and handling and that’s it. I would have no further obligation. In other words, I wouldn’t be automatically enrolled in an autoship program as I thought would be the case. However, I could elect to sign up for the autoship program when I ordered the free hoodia sample so that I could save $25 every month. Both reps told me it was cheaper to be on the autoship program.

According to the two reps I spoke with, you get a two-month supply of Fat Assassin with Hoodia every 60 days when you are on their autoship program. The charge for this would be a total of $52.90 every 60 days and that included shipping and handling.

Now here’s the real surprise – when I told both reps I had to “think about it” and I would need to call them back, I expected to be pressured into buying something. Instead, both reps thanked me for my interest in Fat Assassin and wished me a good night! I was stunned.

For a company that requires you to call to get ANY information on their diet supplement, you would think there would be a reason behind it – to pressure you into buying something. That was not the case when I called. While I’m not a fan of Fat Assassin, I do commend them on their professionalism. But it begs the question – if you’re not going to pressure me into buying something why don’t you just provide the information on the website and save some money without having to field so many calls?

If you are thinking about buying Fat Assassin with Hoodia, I encourage you to call them yourself to decide if you think it’s worth trying. It’s a toll free number and based on my experience, you will not get pressured into anything. And if you do, just hang up!

If all you are looking for is an appetite suppressant, stick with my hoodia recommendations. The brands I recommend have all been verified to contain 100% authentic hoodia gordonii and nothing else. If they are too expensive for you, consider other natural appetite suppressants such as drinking plenty of water and eating apples or green leafy vegetables. Also, protein shakes are terrific appetite suppressants as well.

Hope this helps.

Travis
