Are Hoodia Diet Pills Going To Be Worthless?

Jen Cully, the President of Millennium Health (the company behind Hoodia Hoodia) came out with a shocking press release the other day. The company claims that the only hoodia gordonii entering the market today is cultivated, or farmed, and not wild grown.

In fact, Millennium Health claims that the harvesting of
wild hoodia gordonii has come to an end!

Why is that such a big deal? It’s a big deal because according to Millennium Health, testers are finding that the farmed hoodia gordonii has a significantly reduced level of the active ingredient, P57 – the ingredient that suppresses appetite. The levels are reportedly so low that the end product is pretty much inert or useless. The reason the levels of P57 are so low in the farmed hoodia is directly related to the time the hoodia plant is given to mature before it’s harvested.

According to Millennium Health, the hoodia gordonii plant doesn’t reach
maximum potency until they reach full maturity,
which is around 5-6 years minimum.

With the harvesting of wild hoodia now shut down, farmers in South Africa are harvesting cultivated hoodia gorodnii to fill the supply gap. The problem is, the cultivated hoodia is being harvested in the first 2-3 years of its growth. At this early stage, the hoodia gordonii plant has little or no active levels of P57 in them, says Millennium Health.

Furthermore, the company claims that the cultivated hoodia entering the market today has an active level of about 0.1% or less-
compared to 0.34-0.35% for wild harvested hoodia gordonii!

Jen Cully, states that, “We believe that hoodia gordonii has hit it’s apex in the industry until cultivated crops can be left in the ground long enough to mature and that is going to take a few more years before we start to see hoodia gordonii with any acceptable levels of active in it.” That’s quite a shocking statement.

Basically what she is saying is that once the current supply of wild harvested hoodia is gone, hoodia diet pills
will be worthless for a few more years!

There are some questions left unanswered by the press release and the obvious one being, how long will the current supply of wild harvested hoodia gordonii last? Jen Cully says that their product, Hoodia Hoodia, still has high active levels of 0.35% but that their current stock of hoodia gordonii won’t last long. I want to know what that means. Are we talking a few more weeks, a few more months, or another year or more? And can we assume that Hoodia Hoodia will no longer be available once their hoodia gordonii stock is depleted?

More importantly, if these reports are true,
what does this mean for the consumer?

I proudly recommend two other brands of hoodia as shown on my best rated hoodia page, but how long can I continue to recommend them knowing that in the near future (whenever that is) they may be selling a worthless product because they are using immature cultivated hoodia gordonii? As a consumer, who’s products will you be able to trust once all of the wild harvested hoodia gordonii is gone?

As if there wasn’t already enough confusion for consumers, now they’re going to have to worry about whether or not the hoodia used is mature enough. It will no longer be good enough to know that a specific brand of hoodia contains authentic hoodia gordonii. You’ll now have to know whether or not the hoodia has matured for 5+ years – and based on these reports, there isn’t going to be such a thing in the near future because once the current stock of wild harvested hoodia is gone, it will take a few more years until the cultivated hoodia gordonii is mature enough to be harvested.

So in a nutshell, in the very near future hoodia diet pills may be completely worthless for at least a few years. I will do my best to get some answers and will keep you posted. Until then, if you are considering hoodia diet pills, it sounds like now is the time to buy while you can still be assured that what you are buying is real – and potent!
