Forget Hoodia Diet Pills: It Takes Diet and Exercise for Weight Loss

If you’ve browsed through my site, you know that I stress the importance of diet and exercise for effective, long-term weight loss. In fact, I have stated on this website and in the articles I’ve published that hoodia gordonii itself does not cause weight loss. It only suppresses appetite and plays a minor role in an overall weight loss program! Unfortunately, supplement manufacturers are exaggerating what hoodia can do and some of them are paying dearly for it.

The marketers of TrimSpa, CortiSlim, CortiStress, Xenadrine EFX, and One-A-Day WeightSmart agreed to pay a combined $25 million in fines for exaggerating the claims of their weight loss supplements. These companies were claiming that it was possible to lose as much as 70 pounds simply by taking their diet pills. Some of their ads implied that there was scientific evidence that the ingredients their products contained were proven to melt away unwanted body fat.

According to the FTC Chairman, Deborah Platt Majoras, these companies claimed that their products contained breakthrough ingredients that were proven to cause weight loss. One of those “breakthrough ingredients” was hoodia. The Chairman correctly pointed out that these supposed scientific claims were false. Hoodia does not cause weight loss, and companies that make this claim, or imply it in their advertising, are simply preying on people’s desire to lose weight as easily as possible.

This settlement should cause concern for those companies that continue to exaggerate the effectiveness of hoodia. While authentic hoodia gordonii may help curb your appetite and as a result prevent you from eating too much, it certainly isn’t going to lose the weight for you. You still need to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly!
